One week from today, a pair of southeast Iowa bands will be competing in the 2024 Iowa Jazz Championships. Both Mid-Prairie and Winfield-Mt. Union will be sending musicians to this year’s event, which will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at Iowa State University.

The Golden Hawks and Wolves are just two of the state’s 60 best high school jazz ensembles that were invited to compete. There are 15 teams in each classification, with WMU in 1A and Mid-Prairie in 2A. The Golden Hawks play first at 10:30 a.m. in the Scheman Building, and the Wolves hit the stage at 12:45 p.m. in the same place. Teams will compete during the day, and the top two bands from each classification will perform in the evening finals.

Tickets for the 2024 Iowa Jazz Championships are $15 until Sunday, March 31 after which they will be $20. To purchase tickets, click here.
