The Highland Huskies are getting ready to start a new golf season. Highland will have a number of golfers returning from last season’s roster, including senior Kelsi Cerny, who shot a 20-over-par 92 at regional finals last season to earn a trip to the Class 1A state tournament. Husky head coach Travis Riggan tells KCII Sports that Cerny’s growth is fun to watch as she chases a return trip to state.

“[Cerny has been] taking practice [and] lessons outside our regular-season scheduled stuff that we’ve got going on,” Riggan says. “She’s been meeting with people at the Blue Top facilities [in Riverside] and getting some extra help. That’s going to help ensure that her game is constantly improving. So I’m excited to see where that takes us.”

The Highland boys will have back players like juniors Will Dunbar and Colten Sypherd, who are looking to improve on their 18-hole averages of over 118 strokes. Both teams for the Huskies will have their first meet of the season Tuesday at New London.
