The Washington County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday. On the agenda was a proclamation naming April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Washington County. Tammy Wetjen-Kesterson Child Welfare and Decategorization Director of Southeast Iowa Early Childhood Development gave a presentation, and then shared what the community can do to support families in the area, “And I finished out the handout with some extra things that folks typically ask me what are some things we could share with community members that will help families. Donating to your local food bank, we have a lot of families right now that are struggling with food insecurity. The next one up is diapers, you can read the statistics, but diapers are a huge stressor for families.” The board voted unanimously to approve the proclamation. April 5th is Go Blue Day, a campaign meant to bring businesses and organizations together to raise awareness for child maltreatment prevention efforts in the community.
