Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Austin Almon has only been paired with his K9 Kalo for a few weeks, but the two are already proving to be an effective team. Deputy Almon and Kalo recently became certified in narcotics detection.

This certification comes through Dogs For Law Enforcement, a nonprofit that donates dogs and/or training to police agencies. In addition to narcotics detection, Kalo will specialize in tracking. Deputy Almon spoke with KCII about the benefits that he and Kalo will provide for the community. “With K9s a patrol can do so much when it comes to getting bad guys off the street and getting dangerous drugs off the street as well.”

With the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s current K9 Cy approaching retirement, Deputy Almon and Kalo are expected to begin patrolling the streets next month.
