At 8:34 p.m. Friday, the National Weather Service Quad Cities office issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for east central Washington County and Louisa County in the KCII listening area until 9:15 p.m. Shortly after, a second Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southeastern Washington County, northern Henry County, and Louisa County went into effect until 9:30 p.m.

Spotter indicated threats with these storms included half-inch diameter hail in Columbus Junction, three-quarter-inch hail in Columbus City, and inch-in-diameter hail in Letts. Locations in both Louisa and Henry counties, including Wapello and Wayland received three-tenths of an inch of rain in a half hour, while Crawfordsville received four-tenths of an inch of rain.

Two members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team provided live coverage on the air. Had the power gone out, coverage would have continued with KCII’s back-up generators. The one to count on for up-to-the-minute severe weather coverage is AM and FM KCII.
