The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls soccer teams hit the road in conference play tonight to take on the West Liberty Comets. The Golden Hawk boys are 1-1 on the season after splitting matches during opening week. Mid-Prairie was a 2-1 winner at Highland behind one goal each from Daniel Rodgers and Joe Hall, one assist each for Tucker Miller and Peyton Fox and a five save day in goal for Jacob Flynn. Mid-Prairie was beaten in their home opener Thursday by Williamsburg 2-0. The Hawks were limited to three shots on goal on offense while Mason Eggleston scored twice for the Raiders. Flynn had six saves in goal for Mid-Prairie.

West Liberty is also 1-1 this year after a 4-0 shut out win at Columbus and a 3-2 loss against Clear Creek Amana. The Comets have won the last 12 in the series over Mid-Prairie including a 10-0 triumph last season.

The Golden Hawk girls are 0-1 this year after a 6-0 loss at Solon last week to start the season. The Hawks couldn’t get things going offensively, posting just one shot on goal, but goalkeeper Niva Helmuth set a Mid-Prairie record with 31 stops in the match. The West Liberty girls are 1-1 on the season, beating Columbus 4-0 in their opener behind goals from Nellie Staggs, Jacky Molina, Katherine Barten and Bricsia Garcia-Vazquez while Maelyn Wainwright turned in a clean sheet with 12 saves. Against Clear Creek it was the Comets who were shut out 8-0. Mid-Prairie has won three of the last four in this series including a 3-2 victory a season ago.

The girls match starts at 5p.m. with the boys to follow tonight in West Liberty.
