The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team braved the road trip and the weather Monday to grab their first win of 2024, taking down West Liberty 2-1. The game was scoreless through the first half. After intermission, Elise Gingerich beat the Comet defense with an assist from Zoey Curtiss to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later the Comets would equalize. The game winner for Mid-Prairie came on the same connection, Curtiss to Gingerich, for her second goal of the night. That was enough for the Golden Hawk defense who made the tally stand up, led by Niva Helmuth in goal and her eight saves. With the win, the Hawks are now 1-1 on the season, West Liberty drops to 1-2.
