rainfall

Ahead of the planting and growing season, the City of Washington and surrounding areas have received some much needed rainfall over the last several days.

As of noon Tuesday, 1.89” of rain had fallen in Washington. A majority of that precipitation, around an inch, resulted from a chain of storms passing through the KCII listening area between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. These storms also brought lightning and brief moments of pea-sized hail. Other locations in the listening area included Lone Tree receiving 2.39” of rain, more than an inch and a half of that on Tuesday morning, Wellman and Kalona at 1.52” of rain, Fairfield with an inch and a quarter and Mt. Pleasant at .65”.

This rainfall should alleviate some of the drought conditions which have been plaguing the eastern half of the state for over a year. The forecast for the rest of the week calls for temperatures to remain in the 30s and 40s Wednesday and Thursday with a wintry mix possible, before warming up into the 50s with sunshine for the weekend. The one to count on for up-to-the-minute severe weather coverage is AM and FM KCII.
