The Johnson County Drug Task Force recently assisted in a case that led to a 27-year sentence for a Georgia drug dealer.

Thirty-five-year-old Kevin Lorenzo Perry was sentenced to federal prison on March 28 after a guilty plea to distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death. In a plea agreement, Perry admitted to supplying fentanyl and acetyl fentanyl to another person, causing their death on February 6, 2020. The death occurred in Independence. Perry had been previously sentenced to 240 months in the Southern District of Iowa for another overdose death that also occurred in 2020 in Iowa City.

Assisting in the investigation was the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Drug Enforcement Administration, Independence Police Department, and Iowa City Police Department.
