On Wednesday, March 27, a Prom Night Mock Crash was held at New London High School. The event, which was used to demonstrate the dangers of drinking and driving, was organized largely by Henry County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and School Resource Officer Carlos Lopez.

Mock crashes typically utilize student-actors as well as emergency service personnel to illustrate the consequences of driving while intoxicated or distracted. Participating in New London’s event was the school’s performing arts department, New London Fire & Rescue, New London Police Department, Henry County Emergency Management, Henry County EMS, Elliott Funeral Chapel, and Tiger Towing.

The mock crash is just one of many safety projects taken on by Deputy Lopez. Earlier this year, New London held an emergency response drill to simulate an active shooter situation. Deputy Lopez has also been working with the Sheriff’s Office to raise funds for emergency response kits in every Henry County classroom.
