The Washington Demons won their first conference match of the boys’ soccer season by defeating Burlington 4-1 on the road last night. Sophomore Edwin Cortes got Washington on the board first in the 21st minute, and Bill De La Rosa would double the Demons’ advantage heading into halftime after an assist by fellow senior Lane Schrock.
After Burlington cut the deficit in half at the start of the second half, Cortes would find the back of the net again in the 64th minute on a feed from senior Brayan Arreola, and the Washington captain would score himself two minutes later after an assist from fellow senior Angel Mata. The victory helps the Demons start the season 2-0 overall heading into their next match Monday versus Mount Pleasant.
Unfortunately, the Washington girls were not as lucky, as a second-half tally allowed was the only scoring done in what would be a loss to Burlington. The Demon ladies have now been on the wrong side of a 1-0 loss in each of their first three matches and will hope to fair better when they travel Monday to meet Mount Pleasant.
