The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls track and field team took second overall at the Jane Astor Relays at Clear Creek Amana in Tiffin Friday. The Hawks tied with Mt. Vernon for second place with 131 points. Solon won the team title with 142.5. Mid-Prairie had three event champs on the night including Emma Lueck in long jump who flew 17’2″, setting a new meet record. She spoke with KCII sports Friday about the performance. Lueck said, “Before that jump, my steps were kind of off. I was going through it a little bit, trying to figure out what was going on because I was jumping from behind the board. I scooted my foot up a little bit and tried to be as confident as I could with my run-up. Get my knee drive going, get power behind my pushes. Then I hit the board, drove up as high as I could and that was it. It was awesome. I knew it was good as soon as my foot hit the board. It felt amazing!”
Danielle Hostetler was a winner in the 1500 with her time of 5:01.82. The third title came from the distance medley relay team of Dakota Mitchell, Lueck, Jovi Evans and Hostetler in 4:26.33. Second place finishes included Evans in the 100m, Abby Fleming in the 3000, and the 4×200 team of Mitchell, Lueck, Paige Safly and Evans. Taking third were Behla Schmidt in the 100 hurdles, Kendal Landstrum in the 800, Brooklyn Stutzman in the 3000 and the sprint medley team of Mitchell, Lueck, Evans and Greta Sieren. The Golden Hawks are back in action tonight when they travel to Lone Tree.
