Two KCII area schools tee it up Monday in a pair of Southeast Iowa Superconference golf duals when Hillcrest Academy and Lone Tree meet at Blue Top Ridge in Riverside. The Hillcrest Academy boys are fresh off of a dream season that saw them go 52-0. The run included the first Southeast Iowa Superconference team championship in school history, a sectional championship, a district title and the Class 1A State Championship. The Ravens shot a team average of 171 per nine holes, including a 156 season low and a 325 average per 18 with a season low 316. Hillcrest returns three of the top six from the state championship team. While they lose nine hole leader Luke Schrock and his 41 average, they do return Rowan Miller, Liam Schrock and Seth Ours with their 43, 43 and 47 averages per nine holes last year and 81, 84 and 91 averages per 18 holes from a year ago. Also graduated are seniors Jace Rempel and Josiah Beachy. Rempel was the team leader per 18 at 79. Also joining this year’s team are Phoenix Anderson, Matthew Chalupa, Rylan Good, Danny Meyer, Lawson Schrock and Ethan Yoder.
Lone Tree is also starting the season tonight. The Lions boys were 5-35 a year ago. This season’s Lone Tree roster includes senior Dominic Graap, juniors Lukas Fuhrmeister, Caleb Grissom and Jack Patterson and sophomore Cade Willoz. The Ravens won the head-to-head contest with these schools in 2023, 157-231, led by Miller’s 37.
This is the first season the Hillcrest girls will field a scoring team since 2018, and the first time they have any individuals since 2021. This year’s Raven roster includes freshmen Ava Miller and Brynna O’Rourke, sophomores Maria Portillo, Claire Withrow and Izzy Frederickson and juniors Natalie Meganathan and Nour Ayoub. Lone Tree has two athletes this year including sophomore Charlie Kuboushek and freshman Rylie Viers.
Action gets underway in both meets at 4p.m. and continues into the evening at Blue Top Ridge at the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort.
