The Hillcrest Academy Raven boys soccer team looks to make it back-to-back wins to start the season tonight when they host Central Lee in a Southeast Iowa Superconference match. The Ravens were a 4-0 winner in their opener against WACO Thursday behind two goals from Rowan Miller and one each from Seth Ours and Micah Gerber, along with two assists for Jesse Blossom and one for Gerber. Kyle Neuschwander turned in a five save clean sheet against the Warriors to improve to 1-0.
Central Lee has had their first two matches of the season postponed by weather. The Hawks were 6-9 last year, 4-5 in the Superconference. Central Lee had no seniors a season ago, they return all 36 goals scored, including nine apiece put up by Dante Merschman and Landan Lowenberg as juniors and all 26 assists, led by Merschman’s eight. In goal, Hunter Gregory is back after more than 1100 minutes last season, 83 saves, and a 76% save percentage.
These two teams met twice a season ago, with each winning on their homefield, the Ravens 2-1 in penalty kicks and the Hawks 2-1 in regulation in the playoffs. Hillcrest has won 13 of the 15 all-time meetings between the two schools. Action starts tonight at 5p.m. in Kalona.
