It was a seesaw affair Monday night in Kalona, but ultimately, the Hillcrest Academy boys soccer team improved to 2-0 with a 2-1 overtime win over visiting Central Lee. The defenses dictated the action through the first 40 minutes, sending the match to halftime scoreless. The Ravens broke through in the 63rd minute with an Isaac Beachy goal on a Mason Swartzendruber assist to make it 1-0. In the 70th minute, the Hawks equalized when Ayden Kent broke through the Raven defense for a goal to make it 1-1 and that’s where the score stood through regulation. In extra time, Jesse Blossom sent the fans home happy with the instant winner, scoring on a Micah Gerber assist to give the Ravens a 2-1 victory. Central Lee outshot Hillcrest 15-9 including 9-5 in shots on goal and won corner kicks 8-5. Andrew Kauffman was the winning keeper for Hillcrest with five saves. The Ravens are now 2-0 as Central Lee falls to 0-1. Hillcrest is back on the pitch tonight when they travel to Sigourney.
