The annual WACO Relays were good to the host Warriors Monday in Wayland. Both the WACO boys and girls finished second in team scoring, thanks in part to 11 victories from individuals and relay teams.
Junior Louden Huisenga was one of those winners for the Warrior boys, taking the title in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.03 seconds and the 400 hurdles in one minute six seconds. Senior Chase Waterhouse was the champion of the discus throw, hitting a top toss of 123 feet five inches.
Huisenga was part of the WACO shuttle hurdles relay that had a winning time of 1:09, joining freshman Bryson Waterhouse and juniors Gage Samo and Clayton Miller. Freshman Hayden Shelman teamed with sophomores Trey Edeker, Eli Cavin and Octavio Velasco to win the sprint medley for the Warriors in just under 1:49.
Carlee Lunsford was a winner for the WACO girls, finishing the 800 meters in 2:36. Fellow freshman Natalie Wagler leaped 14 feet one inch to claim the crown in the long jump, while senior Zoey Dennler won the 100 hurdles in 18.84 seconds.
Lunsford joined classmates Courtney Waterhouse, Mei Leichty and Madelyn Farmer to win the 4-by-400-meters in 4:45, while Dennler, Leichty, junior Ally Rinner and freshman Brenna Graber took first in the sprint medley in 2:06.
The Warrior girls also got second-place finishes from sophomore Sarah Craun in the 400, junior Elyssa Graber in the 1,500, junior Justine Lynn in the 3,000 and freshman Drew Graber in the long jump.
Freshman Madelyn Farmer was third in the 100-meter dash and the high jump for WACO, as was Rinner in the 100 hurdles, freshman Kinsey Hildebrand in the 200 open and senior Rhiannon Horn in the shot put. The Warrior ladies were the runners-up in the 4-by-100 and 4-by-200, as well as the shuttle hurdles and the distance medley.
Husienga won a silver medal for the WACO boys in the high jump, as did freshman Layke Millspaugh in the 400 hurdles. Samo was third in the 800, as was junior Clayton Miller in the 200.
In addition to runner-up finishes in the 4-by-100, 4-by-200 and distance medley, the Warriors took third in the 4-by-400 and had a second 4-by-200 team that won a bronze medal.
