The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls soccer teams look to keep their winning streaks alive tonight when they host Cedar Valley Christian in a non-conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk boys are 3-2, winners of back-to-back matches over Monticello and Columbus, including a 4-0 win against the Panthers on the road Tuesday behind two goals from Daniel Rodgers, one each for Peyton Fox and Tucker Miller, two assists for Adrian Sanchez and a combined clean sheet with eight saves from Joe Hall and Kale Miller. This year the Hawks are outscoring opponents 9-4 in total, with 43 shots on goal and a team save percentage at 88%. Individually, Rodgers and Beau Flynn each have three goals, Sanchez’ two assists lead and Hall, Kale Miller and Jacob Flynn have a combined 88% save percentage with 35 stops.
Cedar Valley Christian is 1-2 this year with losses to Clayton Ridge and Vinton-Shellsburg. They picked up a win Tuesday 3-1 against Anamosa. The Huskies have scored six times and given up six goals this year with 19 shots on goal and an 81% team save percentage. Individually, Sam Severson is the leader with three goals. He, Max McDill, Josiah Steen and Caleb Krueger each have an assist. In goal, Steen has 21 saves with an 81% save percentage. Mid-Prairie has won all 11 matches in the series including a 5-1 road win a season ago where Dylan Henry, Tucker Miller, and Jackson Miller all scored, Beau Flynn had an assist and Jacob Flynn got the win in goal for the Hawks. Severson had the CVC goal.
The Mid-Prairie girls are 3-1 this year, winners of three straight including a 5-0 victory at Monticello Tuesday where Meadow Flynn, Elise Gingerich, Kassidi Greiner, Zoey Curtiss and Lydia Beachy all scored goals, Gingerich had two assists, Gabby Geno and Kealy Roberts each had one and Niva Helmuth and Adelyn Huston combined on the shut out in goal. This year the Hawks are outscoring their opponents in total 9-8, including 9-2 during their current winning streak. Mid-Prairie has 31 shots on goal and and 88% team save percentage. Individually, Gingerich leads with four goals. She and Zoey Curtiss each have two assists and in goal, Helmuth, Huston and Ruth Whitthoft have an 88% save percentage and a combined 61 stops.
Cedar Valley Christian is 1-2 this year with losses to Vinton-Shellsburg and Clayton Ridge with a win over Wapello. They have been outscored this season 11-8 in total. The Huskies are led by two goals from Rielle Moore and an assist from Samantha Ahrendsen with Taylor Blanchard holding a 60% save percentage in goal with six saves. The Hawks are 5-1 all-time in this series including a 2-0 win last season that included a Helmuth goal.
