The Keota Eagles were the team champions of the annual Keota Boys’ Golf Invitational yesterday. A team score of 325 strokes was seven less than the second-place PCM junior varsity and 14 better than the third-place Sigourney Savages.
Keota’s best individual score came from Cole Kindred, who finished tied for fifth overall by shooting a six-over-par 78. Fellow Eagle senior Sawyer Stout and freshman Brennan McGuire each shot 82 to finish tied for eighth, while junior Billie Kindred fired an 83 and seniors Tanner Waterhouse and Conner Strand finished with 86 and 89, respectively.
Sigourney was led by sophomore Solon Yates, who shot a five-over 77 to finish fourth on the individual leaderboard and was only four strokes away from winning the tournament. Sophomore Josh Wyatt and senior Brock Alderson each shot 87 for the Savages, while freshman Ike Molyneux fired an 88 and junior Cain Weber finished with 90.
Sigourney came in on the heels of a close loss to HLV Tuesday, as they posted a score of 167 but fell four strokes short. Yates was again brilliant with an even-par 36 over nine holes, while Weber was seven over at 43 and Molyneux and Wyatt were one stroke behind him.
Alderson and junior Issac Bruns each had 48 for the Savages, who will host a quadrangular with Keota, Montezuma and North Mahaska in their next meet Monday. The Sigourney girls would defeat HLV by three strokes, with senior Emma Hammes’ 50 leading the way as the Savages finished with a team score of 237.
