Local track and field athletes put forward some good results earlier this week. The WACO Warriors were led at the Lisbon Opener by Gage Samo, who was the champion in the 400-meter hurdles Tuesday, posting a top time of one minute one second.

Samo also helped the WACO boys finish second in the shuttle hurdles relay, while fellow junior Louden Huisenga took third place in the high jump. Warriors senior Chase Waterhouse was fourth in the discus toss, while junior teammate Clayton Miller finished fifth in the 200-meter dash.

The best finish at Lisbon for the WACO girls came from senior Zoey Dennler, who earned the bronze medal in the 400 hurdles. Freshman Carlee Lunsford was fifth in the 800 meters for the Warriors, who also got a third-place finish from their distance-medley relay team and a fifth-place finish in the 4-by-200-meters.

The Sigourney Savages had plenty of success Monday and Tuesday at the Ruth Ahrens Relays in Marengo. Sophomore Troy Klett was a winner for Sigourney in the 3,200 meters with a time of 11 minutes 23 seconds and took second in the half-mile.

Junior teammate Caden Clarahan was also a runner-up in the shot put while finishing third in the 110 hurdles. Colt Reed took fourth in the 200 for the Savages, as did fellow sophomore Brayden Wood in the 800 and junior Jayden Thompson in both the discus and the shot put. The Sigourney boys were also third in the distance medley; fifth in the shuttle hurdles; and fourth in both the 4-by-100 and 4-by-400.

On the girls’ side, three different Savages had runner-up finishes, including senior Erin Dawson in the shot put; junior Reagan Clarahan in the 100 hurdles; and sophomore Addison Yates in the 1,500 and 3,000. Dawson and Clarahan were also fourth in the 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles, respectively.

In addition to freshman Kia Montgomery taking third place in the 400, the Sigourney girls also finished fourth in the 4-by-100 and fifth in both the 4-by-400 and the distance medley. The Highland boys took part in the Ruth Ahrens Relays and were led by junior Cayden Day’s fifth-place finish in the 200.
