At a recent Washington City Council meeting, a resolution was approved that would bar anyone that does not live or own a business in the City limits from addressing them at a meeting. This does not apply during public hearings.  Council members Fran Stigers, Illa Earnest, and Elaine Moore share their thoughts, “Well we are a City Council not a County Council, if you come from the city, you have a word, you belong in the country, go see the Supervisors.” Earnest states, “Ok, I think we are solving a problem that doesn’t exist. If they come and they don’t live in the City, we can deny them or we can listen. They may have something to say that we want to hear anyway.” Moore follows with, “Again, if you have city property, you’re more than welcome, if it’s something that you don’t have city property, you are more than welcome to come in and do a special presentation.” The resolution was approved in a 5-1 vote, with Council member Illa Earnest voting against.
