Local golf teams were able to show what they can do Monday. The Highland Huskies were able to earn a victory in a girls’ dual against Southeast Iowa Super Conference rival Louisa-Muscatine Monday at Cedar Crest Country Club in Columbus Junction. A team score of 195 was 16 strokes better than the Falcons.
Sophomore Adisyn Prottsman had Highland’s best score and was the meet medalist after shooting a nine-over-par round of 44. Junior teammate Adeline Krotz had a 48, while senior Kelsi Cerny fired a 51 and sophomore Emerson Schultz finished with 52.
Senior Haley Sands also had a 55 for the Highland girls, while the boys were led by junior Colton Sypherd’s 46. Freshman Isaac Giesmann also had a 54 for the Huskies.
The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves got a strong effort from their boys’ team while golfing with the WACO Warriors at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Winfield. WMU senior Carter Loyd was the meet medalist by shooting a five-over-par 41, but freshman Cody Milks was only two strokes behind him.
Wolves sophomore Konner Kinneberg was only three strokes back of Loyd, while freshman Justin Knipfer finished with 49. Junior Sinjin Brown fired a 51 and sophomore Max Edwards shot 52 for Winfield-Mount Union, while WACO’s top score belonged to freshman Malachi Rinner with a 49.
The WMU girls were led by senior Lily Freeman’s 54, while the lone golfer representing the Warrior girls was freshman Madison Miller, who finished with 93.
The Columbus Wildcats and Lone Tree Lions linked up on the links of Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside. Lone Tree senior Dominic Graap earned boys’ medalist honors with a top round of 48, while freshman Mason Hardy led Columbus with a 56.
Junior Aracely Garza was the girls’ medalist and paced the Wildcats with a 53, while the Lions were led by senior Taylor Bell’s 72.
