The Washington Demon boys’ track and field team got some of its younger athletes a chance to shine Monday at the Mount Pleasant Invitational. Junior Nate Edmonds had the best individual finish for Washington by taking third place in the 100-meter dash.
Edmonds was also fifth in the 200 meters and the long jump, as were freshmen Ethan Hotchkiss and Teague Pepper in the 800 open and the 400-meter hurdles, respectively. The Demons would finish third in the distance medley relay as well as fourth in the 4-by-100-meters and fifth in the 4-by-400.
The Winfield-Mount Union girls also brought home some medals from Mount Pleasant. Junior Josie Nelson won silver in both the 100 and 400 hurdles, while senior Aurey Meeker took bronze in both the 100 hurdles and 200 open.
The Wolves also finished fifth in the 4-by-100. WACO’s best individual finish belonged to freshman Brenna Graber, who was sixth in the high jump, while the Warriors’ shuttle hurdles relay team was fourth.
While Winfield-Mount Union is set to host area track teams like WACO for a boys and girls’ meet later today, Washington is slated to host a girls’ meet and send a few boys’ athletes to Davenport Central looking for qualifying times for the Drake Relays.
