The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls golf team put together a strong performance for second place Friday at their home 18-hole Golden Hawk Invitational at the Kalona Golf Course. Mid-Prairie shot a 379 team score, 21 shots better than they played at this event a year ago. Williamsburg edged out the Hawks for the title by three strokes. Gabi Robertson and Madi Davidson posted matching 91s to lead Mid-Prairie, finishing fourth and fifth overall respectively. Elliot Debler broke 100 with a 97. That trio spoke with KCII Sports about the tournament

Robertson said, “The back nine on six, I got a birdie. Second shot was not the best, so coming off making a birdie felt really nice that. I think I could have shaved a few off and it sucks when we get in here to know that we only lost by three strokes.”

Davidson continued, “I think six was really nice to me today too because I was really close to getting birdie both times and ended up with par. (Our scores and improvement) kind of surprises me. I didn’t think I was doing too well in the middle of it, but I do think we have been improving.”

Debler added, “My driver was just working really well today. It hadn’t been, and it came through today. I think we all did really well today.”

Other Golden Hawk scores included Addison English 101 and 103 for Olivia Swartzentruber. The Golden Hawks are off until Monday when they travel to Wilton.
