The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls track team steamrolled the competition on Senior Night Thursday at their only home meet of the year at Dwight G. Sattler Field. The Hawks ran away with the team championship, scoring 207 points, more than doubling second place Pekin’s 103, and winning eight event titles. Individual winners included Jovi Evans taking the 100 and 200 crowns in 13.16 seconds and 27.32 seconds respectively. Behla Schmidt won the 100 hurdles in 16.86 seconds. Abby Fleming was the 1500 winner in 5:22.70. Emma Lueck won long jump clearing 17’1.5″. In relays the Golden Hawk 4×100 team of Dakota Mitchell, Myli Hershberger, Emma Lueck and Jovi Evans were best in 52.27 seconds, the sprint medley team of Mitchell, Lueck, Evans and Greta Sieren beat the field in 1:56.09 and the distance medley of Mitchell, Lueck, Sieren and Danielle Hostetler crossed the line first in 4:36.83. During the meet, four time event champions Jovi Evans and Emma Lueck talked about their wins in the 100 and long jump respectively.

Evans said, “Goal was to hopefully PR and make it to Drake. Definitely (working on) block starts. I’ve been working on those a lot. I changed it up a little bit, mainly the first 20 steps. We’ve done super good tonight. Our team has a really good positive mindset.”

Lueck continued, “This is so fun. I love the people that come out and support us here. We always get a good crowd. Having my parents here supporting is always great. Having the rest of the team here, having everybody else’s parents. I love this team so much! My winning jump was my very last one of the night. I really wanted to go for a PR tonight, that’s what I was hoping for, it would be super fun to do at my home meet. I jumped probably six inches farther than any of my other jumps I had tonight. I just really tried to focus on my steps, form, getting up in the air and landing down in the sand.”

Runner-up finishes included Brooklyn Stutzman in the 3000, Hannah Rodgers in the 400, Hostetler in the 800, Phoebe Shetler in the 1500, Schmidt in the 400 hurdles, Dessa Poll in discus, Hershberger in high jump, the 4×200 with Mitchell, Paige Safley, Lanee Duwa and Hershberger, the 4×800 of Annika Poll, Rodgers, Fleming and Hostetler and the shutle hurdle team of Sophie Miller, Olivia Schlabach, Nora Pennington and Schmidt. Third place finishes included Harper Pacha in shot put and Shetler in the 3000.
