Mid-Prairie eighth-grader Rachel Lamb competed at the Science and Technology Fair of Iowa earlier this month. What started as a class presentation for Lamb last year turned into two first-place finishes at the event, which was held at Iowa State University on April 4-5.
Lamb’s project, titled “Can You Cook A Steak By Slapping It” earned top honors in physics and astronomy for eighth grade and overall junior high. Hardly the first accolades received by Lamb, she earned a blue ribbon at both the Johnson County Fair and the State Fair last year. It was at the State Fair where Lamb was encouraged to enter the Science and Technology Fair.
Her project was one of approximately 400 presented by around 600 students from 71 schools. Lamb is the first Golden Hawk to ever participate in the event.
