The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls soccer teams hosted Anamosa Friday night in Wellman for a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk boys scored a 4-1 win. Mid-Prairie led 1-0 at the break, and poured it on out of half, scoring three straight times to build a 4-0 lead. The Blue Raiders got their goal from Eli Breitbach in the final five minutes of the match. Tucker Miller led the Hawks with two goals, his second and third of the season, to go with an assist. Drake Price and Hudson Ehrenfelt each scored their first career varsity goals. Beau Flynn and Drew Schlabaugh added an assist each. Joe Hall put together a seven save night in goal for Mid-Prairie. After the match, Golden Hawk captain Tucker Miller spoke with KCII Sports about the win.
Miller said, “We had a different formation today. We had three strikers, just to try to generate more shots. The past few games we haven’t had many at all. (When we score early), it gives us a lot of confidence. We play harder, play better. We want to get more goals. Then we can get kids in that don’t get as many goals, to give them a chance to get a goal.”
The Golden Hawks won total shots 25-12, shots on goal 15-12 and corner kicks were even at three. The Mid-Prairie boys are now 5-4 this year as Anamosa falls to 2-6.
In the girls contest, the Hawks dropped a 3-1 decision. Anamosa asserted themselves early, scoring a goal in the first minute of the match. The Raiders added another later in the first stanza for a 2-0 halftime lead. The Hawks cut the deficit in half when Elise Gingerich drove a penalty kick to the back of the net to make it 2-1, only to see the Blue Raiders storm down the field in the next two minutes and get the tally back. Anamosa controlled the match winning total shots 42-8, shots on goal 18-5 and corners 5-1. Chloe Breitbach had two goals and an assist to lead the Blue Raiders to the win. Niva Helmuth had 17 saves in goal for Mid-Prairie. The Golden Hawk girls are now 5-3 as Anamosa improves to 4-2.
