Start to finish Tuesday, it was all Hillcrest Academy in a boys Southeast Iowa Superconference Soccer road matchup with the Wapello Indians. The Ravens topped Wapello by an 8-0 score. Hillcrest scored five times in the first half and added three goals after intermission. They controlled possession, and stuffed the stat sheet with 46 total shots, 25 on goal, and eight corner kicks. Micah Gerber scored twice to give him a team best nine goals on the year. Isaac Birky also scored a pair, his first two of the season. Seth Ours, Mason Bender and Isaac Beachy each scored their second goal of the year, while Mason Helmuth got his first. Ours had a hat trick of assists, giving him a team best eight on the season, Lincoln Miller had his fourth, Angel Sambrano and Bender each had their first. Andrew Kauffman had the clean sheet in goal with three saves, giving the Ravens their fifth shut out in seven matches this season. This week on the KCII PM Sports Page, Hillcrest head coach Marcus Miller talked about what he saw from his team and individual standouts against the Indians.
Miller said, “We wanted to see goals and we wanted to try to get them in certain ways that we’ve been working on in practice, and the guys did a good job with that. We did a good job of creating pressure. Seth Ours really stepped up playing center mid for us. Really did a great job controlling the action in the middle of the field and distributing. The defense line in the back, Bryce (Bailey), Mason Helmuth, Lincoln (Miller) and Kyle Neuschwander. The Midfielders Seth (Ours), Micah Gerber, Isaac Birky and Jesse Blossom there.”
With the win, the Ravens improve to 7-0 with a home date against Columbus Friday. Wapello is now 0-7 and sees Danville tonight.
