Area residents will notice a large law enforcement presence at the United Presbyterian Church the next few days as the Washington Police Department, in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Public Safety Governor’s School Safety Bureau, hosts an Active Shooter Response Level 1 training. This is vital training providing officers with common knowledge of basic entry for an active shooter event. Nearly twenty law enforcement officers from throughout the SE Iowa region, including the Washington Police Department, Washington County Conservation Board and Washington County Sheriff’s Office are attending this training.
