The Washington Demons brought home a team championship in girls’ track and field Thursday, winning the Class A division of the Ekstrand Relays at WACO High School in Wayland with 173 points and finishing 66 points clear of second-place Fairfield.

Washington was led by three victories in the relays, bringing home the title in the 4-by-100-meters with a time of 52.2 seconds while also winning the shuttle hurdles relay in one minute nine seconds and the 4-by-800 in 10 minutes 23 seconds.

Freshman Jaedyn Moore was a two-time winner for the Demons, claiming the crown in the 100-meter dash in 13.14 seconds and needing only a little less than double that time to win the 200 meters.

Washington teammate Leighton Messinger was the champion of the 100-meter hurdles by posting a top time of 16-and-a-half seconds, and the sophomore was tied for first in the high jump by clearing four feet 10 inches.

Messinger also finished second in the 200, as did sophomore Iris Dahl in the 3,000; senior Emery Walton in the 100; junior Kendall Hinrichsen in the 400 hurdles; and sophomore Taylor Miksch in the discus toss.

Demon senior Sadie Van Der Molen was third in the discus, as was sophomore Leighton Salazar in the long jump; junior Lauren Horak in the 1,500; and senior Abigail Kleese in the 400.

Kleese was also fourth in the 800, as was sophomore Addison Miller in the 400 hurdles. Junior Eden Levetzow took fourth in the 400 open and fifth in the long jump. Washington also won a bronze medal in the sprint medley and silver in both the distance medley and the 4-by-400.

The Demon boys finished sixth as a team in Class A and were led by freshman Greyson Hartman’s victory in the shot put after he hit a top toss of 45 feet one inch. Junior Tyler Alderton was also a winner in the mile by clocking in at 10:43.

Hartman was fourth in the discus, as was Alderton in the 800; senior Andrew Shepherd in the 400; and sophomore Sawyer Tschantz in the half mile.

Junior Logan McDole was fifth in the 400 hurdles for Washington, which was also runner-up in the 4-by-800; fourth in the shuttle hurdles; and fifth in both the 4-by-400 and the distance medley. The Demon track teams will next compete Monday at the Brookhart-Crew Relays in Fairfield.
