The Demon golf teams hosted their annual Washington Invitationals yesterday, with the boys finishing second in the team standings at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside and the girls taking fourth as a team at Washington Golf & Country Club.
The Demon boys’ team score of 315 strokes was only seven more than the team champions from Waverly-Shell Rock and was three better than third-place Pella Christian.
Rajan Roth’s one-under par score of 71 was good enough to make him the meet medalist, while fellow Washington sophomore Drew Conrad shot a three-over 75 over 18 holes.
Teague Mayer finished with an 82 for the Demons, while fellow senior Luke Beenblossom fired an 87 and sophomore Carson Brown posted an 88. The Washington girls finished with a team score of 451 and were led by senior Maci Williams’ round of 99, which was good for 14th on the individual leaderboard.
The Highland Huskies would be the runner-up in the team standings at Washington, putting up a team score of 333 that was 39 strokes shy of catching the winners from Pleasant Valley.
Two players had the top rounds for Highland. Junior Danika Kraus shot 89, tied for sixth overall with sophomore teammate Adisyn Prottsman. Senior Kelsi Cerny fired a 96 for the Huskies, while sophomore Emersyn Schultz was two strokes back of her.
While the Highland girls are off the for the rest of the week, both Washington teams will be back on the course in a few days, with the girls playing in a tournament at Ottumwa and the boys taking part in this year’s Southeast Conference Tournament tomorrow in Mount Pleasant.
