The big day has arrived for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys golf team as they travel to the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course for the 2024 River Valley Conference Championship meet. The Hawks enter the day after a Monday 170-172 dual win over West Liberty in Kalona where freshman Grayson Gingerich’s 39 earned medalist honors. On the year, the Hawks have a team average of 170 per nine holes with a 166 low and a 344 average per 18 with a 343 low. Individually, all of Mid-Prairie’s players average mid 40s per nine, led by senior Drew Schlabaugh, junior Ace Peck and Gingerich at 44, freshman Denver Nelson and sophomore Bryce Henry at 45 and sophomore Clayton Davidson at 46. On 18, Schlabaugh is the leader at 79 with Gingerich at 87. The Hawks are ranked No. 19 in Class 2A this week in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association. Schlabaugh is ranked No. 36 in the state.
The Golden Hawks will be joined today by Tipton, Dyersville-Beckman, West Branch, Anamosa, Wilton, Camanche, No. 24 in 2A West Liberty, Durant, No. 12 in 2A Monticello, Cascade, Northeast Goose Lake, No. 32 in 3A Maquoketa and No. 26 in 2A Iowa City Regina. There a dozen ranked golfers in today’s field. Action starts at 11a.m. and continues all afternoon and evening at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course.
