Nothing worth doing is ever easy. For the second year in a row, that was the story for the No. 7 ranked Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls golf team as the made it back-to-back River Valley Conference team titles at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course Tuesday. The Golden Hawks sealed the deal with a team score of 373, two better than second place Tipton and four clear of third place and No. 1 ranked Dyersville-Beckman. The Golden Hawks had four cards in the 90s, led by senior Elliot Debler, who finished with a 90 that included career best front and back nine’s of 45 to earn fifth place overall and a spot on the Elite All-Conference team. Senior Madi Davidson and junior Addison English both posted 94s, finishing eighth and locking up All-Conference bids. Senior Gabi Robertson fired a 95, placing 10th overall and reaching All-Conference status. Golden Hawk freshmen Olivia Swartzentruber and Morgyn Bender shot 103 and 105 respectively. After their win, the happy group of Hawks joined KCII sports to talk about the day and the title.

Davidson said, “We were sitting there after the meet like, okay, if this person makes this, we’ll win. It feels really good! This is why I like our team. It really is a team. We back each other up.”

Robertson continued, “We were calculating Tipton and Beckman’s number five and six players to figure out what they had to see if they would beat us or not. This is awesome. It proves that we are good. That last year wasn’t just luck. We proved our point!”

English added, “As our people came in we asked what they had and added it up, it was awesome!”

The Golden Hawks team score of 373 is 16 strokes better than their winning number of 389 on the same course last season where they bested the Beckman Blazers by one to earn the title in 2023. The Hawks are off until a Monday dual at Durant.
