A pair of Golden Hawk teams are ready to take on their opponents Thursday night. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys golf team travels to West Branch to meet the Bears in a River Valley Conference dual. The Hawks are fresh off of an eighth place finish at Wednesday’s River Valley Conference Championship meet at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course where they shot 356 as a team, led by honorable mention All-Conference selection Grayson Gingerich’s 85 day. On the season, the Hawks have a team average of 170 per nine holes with a 166 low and a 347 average per 18 with a 343 low. Individual leaders are Drew Schlabaugh, Ace Peck and Gingerich on nine, all with 44 averages, followed by Denver Nelson and Bryce Henry at 45 and Clayton Davidson 46. For 18, Schlabaugh is best at 84 and Gingerich is next at 88.
West Branch was the RVC team runner up Wednesday with a 329 team score. The Bears were led by a pair of top tens with Reece Druecker ninth with an 81 and McGavin Smith 10th at 82. On the season, the Bears have a team average of 163 per nine with a 159 low and a 338 average on 18 with a 329 low. Individually, Smith has a 37 average per nine, followed by Cameron Gingierch, Sawyer Jeffries and Bryce Anderson all at 42. On 18 it’s Smith at 81 and Jeffires and Anderson with 85 averages. The Hawks won this matchup last year in Kalona 177-185 led by Bryce Henry’s medalist round of 42. Action starts tonight at 4p.m. and continues into the evening at Cedars Edge Golf Course in West Branch.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team squares off with Central Lee tonight in a makeup match from an early season rain out. The Golden Hawk girls are 6-4 this season and 3-3 in the River Valley after a 2-0 loss in Wellman to Iowa City Regina Monday. On the season, the Hawks have been outscored 24-18 in total with 124 shots, 62 on goal, 36 corner kicks, seven assists and 148 saves with an 86% team save percentage. Individually, Elise Gingerich leads with 10 goals, she and Zoey Curtiss each have a pair of assists and in goal, Niva Helmuth has 103 saves with an 84% save percentage.
Central Lee is 5-3 this year and 2-1 in the Southeast Iowa Superconference. They were a 3-2 winner Tuesday over Burlington Notre Dame behind two goals from Ellie Lake, a Mia Gonzalez assist and 10 saves from Adi Robinson. On the year, Central Lee has outscored their opponents 24-18 in total with 131 shots, 75 on goal, 24 corners, nine assists and 47 saves with a 73% team save percentage. Individually, Lake has 11 goals, Robinson and Shanna Buford have two assists each and in goal, Robinson has allowed 17 goals.
Mid-Prairie won this matchup 1-0 last year in Wellman on a Zoey Curtiss goal with an Elise Gingerich assist and an 18 save clean sheet from Niva Helmuth. Action starts tonight at 5p.m. at the Wellman Rotary Soccer Fields.
