The Washington County Board of Supervisors heard an update from the East Central Iowa Council of Governments at their Tuesday meeting. Executive Director Karen Kurt gave the update, “We know that for this year, one of the projects that we were working on last year was writing a downtown revitalization grant for the City of Riverside. We were awarded that in January, and the value of that was $600,000. Just a few of the activities that we did do, in addition to that Riverside project. We are working on an income survey for the City of Wellman, we’re hopeful to get them some CBG funds for a wastewater project.  We income-qualified two student home buyers for the Kalona student-built projects. And then lastly, we do have a revolving loan fund that provides gap financing to local businesses, so that’s something to keep in mind.” The ECICOG region is home to a half million residents and covers 4,400 square miles in Eastern Iowa, including the six counties of Benton, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn, and Washington.
