Local track and field athletes shined under the bright lights at Thursday’s Southeast Iowa Superconference Championship meet at Roth Field in Wayland.

After capturing their first team track title since 2002 a season ago, the Columbus Wildcat boys ran it back this year, making it back-to-back North Division Championships with their score of 186 points, beating second place Pekin with 140. The Wildcats had six event championships on the night. Kaden Amigon won the 100 in 11.40 seconds, the 200 in 23.40 seconds. Lamar Ceant took the 110 hurdle title in 15.69 seconds. Russel Coil was the double conference throws champ, winning shot put at 48’7″ and discus at 136’8″. The Wildcat 4×100 with Juan Chariez, Riley Kaalberg, Ceant and Amigon was a winner in 45.31 seconds. Other top ‘Cats included Riley Kaalberg runner-up in the 100 and 200. Amigon runner-up in the 400. Ty Muniz second in the two-mile. Alexander Rees runner-up in the 110 hurdles. Second for the 4×800 of Cade Storm, Dakota Aney, Angel Venzor and Damian Vergara. Second for the sprint med of Riley Kaalberg, Rees, Chairez and Vergara, Cade Storm third in the 800, Muniz third in the mile and third for Amigon in long jump. It was third for the 4×4 of Aney, Tyson Kaalberg, Muniz and Vegara, third for the shuttle hurdle with Johnathan Miranda, Tyson Kaalberg, Rees and Ceant, and third for the distance medley of Miranda, Chairez, Tyson Kaalberg and Cael Phillips.

The Winfield-Mt. Union boys were third in the north with a team score 120 points. WMU had seven event championships on the night. Ty Scorpil was a double individual winner, taking the  400 in 51.76 seconds and 400 hurdles in 58.11 seconds. Kohlby Newsom won the 800 in 2:00.64. Jake Edwards cleared six feet to win high jump. Cam Buffington flew 20’11” to win long jump. The Wolves won the sprint medley with a team of Kael Johnson, Eli Miller, Abram Edwards and Gabriel Hemsworth in 1:38.88. They also won the distance med with Lane Genkinger, Edwards, Jaxton Jones and Newsom in 3:54.64. Other top performances for the Wolves included Sheaden Adams third in the 400 and Scorpil third in the 110 hurdles.

The WACO boys were fifth in the north on their home track with 67.5 points. The Warrior’s top performances included runner-up for Louden Huisenga in high jump. Second for the 4×100 of Hayden Shelman, Isaac Rich, Gage Samo and Clayton Miller. Second for the shuttle of Huiesnga, Samo, Casey Coakley and Miller. Chase Waterhouse was second in discus. Third for the 4×2 with Huisenga, Rich, Samo and Miller

The Lone Tree boys came in seventh in the north with 39.5 points. Top Lion performances included runner-up for the 4×200 with Emmett Burke, Domonic Garcia, Ethan Bockelman and Pietro Setti. Domonic Graap was third in the 100.

The Hillcrest Academy boys were eighth in the north with 21 points. Top Raven performance was Owen Scott runner-up in long jump.

The Highland boys were ninth in the north with nine points. Top event for the Huskies was a sixth place finish for the 4×100 team of Elvin Hernandez, Brixton Rust, Jackson Schneider and Cayden Day.

The top area girls team finish came from Hillcrest Academy third in the north with 84 points. Pekin won the meet with 165 points. The Ravens had four event championships on the night, all from Rya Scott, winning the 100 in 13.19 seconds, the 200 in 27.56 seconds, the 400 in 1:01.50 and long jump, flying 15’9″. Other top Raven performances included Marie Yoder and Siena Stanerson going two and three in both the 1500 and 3000s and Delaney Shaw runner-up in long jump,

Lone Tree was fourth in the north with 68 points. The Lady Lions had three event champions on the night. The Lone Tree 4×100 team of Addison McCullough, Rylee Shield, Vivian Zaruba and Ava Christofferson was a winner in 52.36 seconds. That same group won the 4×200 in 1:50.57. The Lady Lions were the sprint med winner with Cate Sexton, Vivian Zaruba, Christofferson and Shield in 1:56.40. Other Lion leaders included second for the distance medley of McCullough, Christofferson, Shield and Vivian Zaruba. third for the 4×800 with Carlee Sexton, Jazmine Nino, Dalanie Graap and Abby Zaruba. Hayden Yoder was third in discus.

Highland was fifth in the north with 64 points. Top finishes for Highland included runner up for the 4×100 team of Alexa Hahn, Hailey Brun, Lilly Barre and Grace Prybil. Prybil third in the 100. Third for Barre in the 200. Mackenzie Davis third in the 400 hurdles, and Hahn third in long jump.

Columbus was sixth in the north with 60 points. Top performances for the ‘Cats included runners-up for Kymila Bacon in the 200 and Isabella Forbes in shot put.

WACO was seventh in the north with 58 points. The Warrior shuttle hurdle of Ally Rinner, Brenna Graber, Madelyn Farmer and Zoey Dennler was best in 1:15.03. Other top WACO performances included Carlee Lunsford second in the 800. Dennler second in the 400 hurdles and third in the 100 hurdles. The Warrior distance medley with Morgan Leichty, Peyton Graber, Lunsford and Elyssa Graber was third.

Winfield-Mt. Union was ninth in the north with 51 points. The Wolves had three event championships on the night. Josie Nelson was the winner in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.20 seconds. Tessa Huston won the title in the 400 hurdles in 1:12.39. Quin Smith cleared 5’2″ to win high jump. Other top finishes for WMU included Aurey Meeker second in the 100 and second for the 4×200 with Nelson, Huston, Meeker and Quin Smith
