The Washington Demons maintained their dominance of Southeast Conference boys’ track and field by winning the conference meet for a fourth straight season yesterday in Fort Madison.

It was close, and there were rainy conditions to deal with as well, but Washington edged out the hosting Fort Madison with a team score of 143, five points more than the Bloodhounds.

The Demons were led by a dominant day from Micah Rees. The senior was the champion of the 800-meter run with a time of two minutes two seconds, but Rees was just getting started, winning the half mile by clocking in at four minutes 43 seconds and taking the Southeast Conference title in the full mile by crossing the finish line in 10:41.

Washington senior Alec Ulin claimed the conference crown in the 400 meters by posting a time of 52.53 seconds. Ulin was also fourth in the 100. The Demons would claim victory in the sprint medley relay with a time of 1:36, as well as the distance medley in 3:50.

Sophomore Andrew Rees finished second to his brother in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters, while freshman teammate Greyson Hartman was runner-up in the shot put and took fourth in the discus toss.

Senior Andrew Shepherd finished third in the 400 for Washington, as did sophomore Kael Williams in the 100. Junior Tyler Alderton took fifth in the 800 for the Demons, while sophomore Carson Ryan was also fifth in the 400-meter hurdles.

Washington would go to win silver medals in the 4-by-400 and 4-by-800-meter relays. The Demons were also fifth in the 4-by-200 and fourth in both the 4-by-100 and the shuttle hurdles.
