High school seniors from across the State gathered in Des Moines on Sunday for the 2024 Iowa Governor’s Scholar Ceremony. Washington student Mikaila Matheson was named the 2024 Governor’s Scholar. The Governor’s Scholar Program began in 2003 and is presented by the Governor’s Office, the Iowa High School Athletic Association, and the Iowa Farm Bureau. It recognizes high-achieving academic seniors who received a photo plaque and commemorative certificate. The largest 64 Iowa schools select two students for the award, while the others invite one.
