Earlier this week, sixteen Mid-Prairie High School students attended the Build Your Future Career Expo and Eastern Iowa Skills Competition.
The highlight of the Skills Competition was a first place finish by the Carpentry Team of Quinn Callahan, Jacob Donaldson, Landry Gingerich, Tucker Miller, and Elijah Statler. All carpentry teams were tasked with constructing picnic tables that will be added to the Coralville Reservoir picnic areas. Also competing was the Welding Team of Burke Berry and Dylan Humphrey, who demonstrated their abilities with shielded metal arc welding.
The other nine Golden Hawks attended the Career Expo, where they were able to learn more about a variety of professional fields, including auto tech, plumbing, over-the-road trucking, construction, electrical areas, and the military. These students were Mason Cline, Jacob Debler, Brock Fisher, Gabrielle Geno, Stella Janecek, Landon Kuenster, Sophia Puttmann, Cuyler Rourke, and Samantha Wonderlich.
Both events were held at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids on April 30.
