Just a few months after dedicating their 30th completed home, Henry County Habitat for Humanity is beginning work today on its next project at 400 East Henry in Mt. Pleasant. The first build day for home 31 runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Today’s work involves securing walls to the home’s foundation, which was prepared by Robert Smith Construction and Kinney and Sons Excavating & Grading. From here on out, it will largely be volunteers taking over the build. Operations Manager for Henry County Habitat for Humanity, Lisa Diener, tells KCII that the organization will take both skilled and unskilled workers. “As long as you are at least age 16, you are welcome to come lend a hand. We can definitely find something for you to do. If there’s a particular part of the build you are interested in, we can definitely invite you to come on the day we’ll be doing that.” Volunteers must sign a waiver on their first day.
In addition to the build, Henry County Habitat for Humanity is holding a Stuff the Truck Event next Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mt. Pleasant Christian School Parking Lot. They will be accepting donations in the form of appliances, building materials, furniture and more. Items will be sold at Fairfield ReStore, and money raised will go towards the 31st build.
