The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys soccer team sent the seniors off as winners in dramatic fashion Monday night at the Wellman Rotary Soccer Fields with a 3-2 victory over the visiting Cascade Cougars. It was the Cougars that found the board in the first half on a Juan Alvarado goal to take a 1-0 lead to the break. With adjustments at halftime, the Hawks found their offense. Peyton Fox equalized for Mid-Prairie midway through the period. Hugo Banuelos then gave the Golden Hawks their first lead of the night with his strike. At that point, it was Cascade’s turn to equalize with Charlie Thole tying the match at two sending the proceedings to overtime. Less than 90 seconds into the extra period, the Hawks would send everyone home happy. Tucker Miller took a corner kick and launched the ball back post, then Dylan Henry did his best Superman impression, flying in, nodding the ball into the corner for the win, and the celebration was on. After the match, Mid-Prairie seniors Henry and Banuelos talked about their goals, this senior group and Monday’s win.

Banuelos said, “This was very special. We have a big group of seniors and it was special to have everyone on the field as a big group. We have been practicing together for a long time. We’ve all been working hard and we are happy to be able to all play together at the same time. (On my goal) I just remember I was on the ground. I looked up and the ball was in the back of the net. I think it was a slow roller into the corner and the keeper wasn’t anywhere near it.”

Henry continued, “It was fun to be able to start with all seniors in our lineup. I thought that was pretty cool. (On my goal) I have to give credit to Tucker Miller. That was a beautiful ball and it was pretty much all him. I was just in the right spot.”

Cascade outshot Mid-Prairie 19-17 in total including 7-6 in shots on goal. The Hawks had four corners to one for the Cougars. Drake Price, Tucker Miller and Daniel Rodgers all had assists for the Golden Hawks and Joe Hall made eight saves for the win in goal. Mid-Prairie is now 8-5 on the year and travels to Maquoketa Wednesday, while Cascade falls to 5-9.

Mid-Prairie honored seniors Drake Price, Tucker Miller, Joe Hall, Daniel Rodgers, Beau Flynn, Hugo Banuelos, Sawyer Hough, Dylan Henry, Drew Schlabaugh, Anthony Culbertson, Jacob Carillo and Jackson Miller in a pregame ceremony.
