It was a tough one Tuesday night for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team as they fell in Wellman to the rival Williamsburg Raiders by a 2-1 score in penalty kicks. Offensive chances were at a premium for much of the match as the two teams stood scoreless at half. Midway though the second frame the Hawks broke through when Brooklyn Schneider beat the Raider defense on a breakaway before being fouled in the box. Eva Marner drove home the PK to give the Golden Hawks the 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, the Raiders went to the other end and equalized. The score would stay locked at one through the rest of regulation and a pair of overtime periods.
In the penalty kick shoot out, the Raiders took the match 4-3. Niva Helmuth made one stop in goal for the Hawks and Zoey Curtiss, Lydia Beachy and Kyla Karnes connected on their kicks. As a team, Mid-Prairie finished with 10 shots, six on goal, and three corner kicks.
With the loss, Mid-Prairie is now 7-5 as Williamsburg improves to 4-10. The Golden Hawks are back in action Thursday when they host Washington for Senior Night.
