A pair of KCII area boys golf teams go west Wednesday with dreams of state on the line as the Hillcrest Academy Ravens and Highland Huskies take on the field at the Class 1A Sectional tournament at Lynnville-Sully. The Ravens are the defending Class 1A boys state champs, and enter the day with a 17-15 overall record. They were seventh at last week’s Southeast Iowa Superconference tournament at Sheafer Memorial Golf Park in Fort Madison with a 375 team score, led by Liam Schrock’s 83 to finish seventh overall. On the season, the Ravens have a team average of 183 per nine with a 168 low and a 369 average on 18 with a 357 low. Individually, Rowan Miller leads with averages of 38 and 81 on nine and 18 holes respectively. Schrock is next at 42 and 86 and Seth Ours third at 44 and 89. The Ravens were sectional champions a season ago.
The Highland Huskies are 3-15 this season. They were 13th of 15 schools at least week’s Superconference Championship meet with a 427 team score, led by Colten Sypherd eighth overall with an 84. On the year, the Huskies have a nine hole team average of 221 with a 212 low and a 427 average and low on 18. Individually, Sypherd sets the standard with a 54 average on nine and an 85 average for 18. William Dunbar is second with a 57 per nine and 109 on 18.
These two schools will be joined today by the Baxter Bolts, BGM Bears, Montezuma Braves, North Mahaska Warhawks and home Lynnville-Sully Hawks. Action starts at 10a.m. and continues all day Wednesday in Lynnville.
