The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys soccer team hits the road for Maquoketa tonight and a River Valley Conference matchup with the Cardinals. The Hawks are 8-5 on the year after a 3-2 come-from-behind Senior Night win on Monday over Cascade. In the comeback against the Cougars, the Golden Hawks got goals from Peyton Fox, Hugo Banuelos and Dylan Henry’s game winner with assists from Daniel Rodgers, Tucker Miller and Drake Price. Joe Hall made eight saves to preserve the win. On the season, the Hawks have outscored their opponents 23-20 in total with 215 shots, 96 on goal, 54 corner kicks, 18 assists and 98 saves with an 83% team save percentage. Individually, Tucker Miller and Beau Flynn lead the team with four goals, Miller’s five assists are best and in goal, Hall has 80 saves with an 83% save percentage.

Maquoketa is 4-7 this season after 4-0 win over Prince of Peace Monday where Cameron Tracy led with a hat trick. This season the Cardinals have been outscored 26-18 in total with 106 shots, 74 on goal, 11 assists and 156 saves with an 86% save percentage. Individually, Tracy has 10 goals, Kelan Starr four assists and Samuel Knotts has given up 25 goals to lead the way. This week, Mid-Prairie Senior Drake Price talked with KCII Sports about what his team is doing well down the stretch.

Price said, “We’ve definitely come a long way from the beginning of the year. We have better control of the ball, a plan for where it’s going and are able to keep possession.”

Mid-Prairie beat Maquoketa a season ago in Wellman 3-1. Action starts today at 3p.m. and continues into the afternoon and evening at Goodenow Field in Maquoketa.
