The Keota Eagles, Sigourney Savages and Winfield-Mount Union Wolves are all moving on to Class 1A golf districts as full team units after advancing from their sectional tournaments yesterday.
Keota’s team score of 339 strokes was 16 less than second-place HLV and good enough to give them a sectional championship at Meadowview Golf & Country Club in Central City. Sawyer Stout led the Eagles and was second overall by shooting an eight-over 80 that included six bogeys.
Fellow senior Tanner Waterhouse was only one stroke behind him in third, while junior Billie Kindred and senior Cole Kindred each shot an 86 to finish tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard. Senior Conner Strand’s 89 was good enough to tie for 10th with freshman Brennan McGuire as Keota advances to districts in back-to-back seasons.
Sigourney put up a team score of 339 at 3-30 Golf & Country Club in North Cedar, finishing just eight strokes better than second-place Easton Valley but still securing victory. Sophomore Solon Yates was also the individual sectional runner-up by shooting an eight-over 80.
Freshman Ike Molyneux finished with an 84 for the Savages, while senior Brock Alderson fired a 93 and juniors Issac Bruns and Cain Weber had rounds of 86 and 89, respectively. Sophomore Josh Wyatt added a 99 as Sigourney moves on to districts as a team for the first time since winning sectionals in 2021.
Winfield-Mount Union took second as a team at Dearwood Golf Club in New London, finishing just 10 strokes back of the winners from English Valleys. Wolves senior Carter Loyd was joined by freshmen teammates Justin Knipfer and Cody Milks in each carding a team-best 86.
Sophomores Konner Kinneberg and Grant Anderson added rounds of 88 and 95, respectively, to punch WMU’s ticket back to districts Monday at Heritage Oaks Golf & Country Club in Wapello, where they will be joined by Sigourney and Keota.
Columbus senior Cael Phillips finished tied for 13th at Central City and led the Wildcats by shooting a 93 but missed out on advancing to districts, while junior Jack Patterson paced the Lone Tree Lions with a 103.
