State tournament hopes are alive for the Hillcrest Academy Raven golf team, after team and individual 1A sectional championships Wednesday in Lynnville. The Ravens beat the field of seven schools with their season low score of 313, two shots better than second place BGM. Hillcrest was led by sophomore sensations Rowan Miller and Liam Schrock. The young duo delivered on the big stage despite tremendous adversity. Miller was the individual sectional champion with his sizzling two-under-par round of 70, which he put together on foot, in a brace, due to a torn ankle ligament. Schrock went one over for a 73 to earn medalist runner-up honors. Other Raven scores included junior Seth Ours with an 81, freshman Lawson Schrock shot 89, sophomore Ethan Yoder went 103 and freshman Matthew Chalupa 104. Hillcrest advances to Monday’s Class 1A District Tournament at Heritage Oaks in Wapello.

The Highland Huskies were also in Lynnville. They did not post a team score. Top Dog for Highland was junior Colten Sypherd with a 93 for 22nd place. He was followed by teammates freshman Isaac Giesmann in 31st with a 104 and junior William Dunbar 33rd with a 105. This brings the season to a close for the Huskies.
