At the Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, a presentation was given by Iowa Project AWARE (A Watersheds Awareness River Expedition). Advisor for Project AWARE Seth Zimmermann gave the presentation on the upcoming project with the Skunk River, “I am a volunteer on Iowa Project AWARE, and we like to get out into the communities that we are going into. This year, it’s our twenty-first year, we’re on the Skunk River. I’ve been with the project about twenty years. The whole project is that we bring a group of people together, usually around two-hundred and fifty to three hundred people paddle down a different river every year, pulling garbage out of the river, and then at midpoints and then at the end point we sort it and get it to recyclers.” The project on the Skunk River will be held from July 7th through 12th.
