Before the start of the City Council meeting on Tuesday evening, Millie Youngquist was officially sworn into office as Mayor of Washington, “That I will faithfully and impartially to the best of my ability, discharge all the duties of the office of Mayor in the City of Washington Iowa, as now and hereafter required by law.” With Youngquist as the elected Mayor, the City now has a vacant council seat. The Council decided to appoint a person for the At-Large vacancy, more information will be coming from the City on how that will be done. Youngquist won the special mayoral election that was held on April 30th, against three other contestants, receiving 44.17% of the vote.
