A quartet of girls golf teams from the KCII listening area get the post season started today with a trip to the Sigourney Golf and Country Club for a Class 1A first round regional.

The Hillcrest Academy Ravens come into the day with a 4-19 overall record. They finished 11th of 13 schools at the Southeast Iowa Superconference Championship meet in Wapello with a team score of 573 across 18 holes, led by Claire Withrow in 33rd overall with a 126. On the season, the Ravens have a team average of 320 on nine holes with a 253 low and a 573 average and low on 18. Individually, Withrow is the leader on nine with a 75 average and Izzy Frederick is next with a 78. On 18, Withrow’s 126 average is best with Ava Miller next at 142.

It’s been a big year already for head coach Travis Riggan and the Highland Huskies. The girls come into the day Friday, looking for their first ever trip to state, fresh off of the program’s first ever Southeast Iowa Superconference team championship. The Huskies shot 380 on 18 holes to win it all at Wapello Monday. Adisyn Prottsman had the top round for the Huskies with a 91 to finish in third overall. This season Highland is 31-1 and has a 211 team average on nine holes with a 195 low and a 384 on 18 with a 372 low. Individually, Prottsman and Danika Kraus each have 50 averages for nine to lead. On 18, Prottsman, Kraus and Kelsi Cerny are all under 100 at 93, 95 and 98 respectively.

The Keota Eagles will be in Sigourney today for competition. The Eagle’s last round was Tuesday at the South Iowa Cedar League Championships in Oskaloosa. Keota did not have a team score but got a strong individual performance from Lainey Swanson with a 98 to finish SICL individual runner-up. For the season, Swanson has a nine hole average of 77 with an 18 hole mark at 98. Teammate Ava Greiner has a 101 average on nine. Swanson is ranked No. 53 this week in the latest Class 1A poll from the Iowa Golf Coaches Association.

The host Sigourney Savages round out the group of local teams at the Regional today. Sigourney has a 14-10 record this season. The Savage girls were sixth at Osky for the SICL Championships with a 496 score, paced by Emma Hammes with a 118. On the year, Sigourney has a nine hole team average of 229 with a 207 low and a 482 team average on 18 with a 467 low. Individually, Hammes has a team best 53 average on 18, followed by Lana Thomas at 56 and Adalynne Tremmel 59. On 18 it’s Hammes out front with a 114 average.

These four schools will be joined today by BGM, English Valleys, HLV, No. 11 Montezuma, and North Mahaska. There are three ranked golfers in today’s field. The top two teams, along with the top six individuals and ties advance to the 1A Regional Final Wednesday at Honey Creek Resort in Moravia. Action starts at 10a.m. and continues all day Friday in Sigourney.
