At their meeting on Wednesday, the Washington School Board heard a presentation from Washington Activities Director Nathan Miller about Esports. Here are some details from that presentation, “What esports are is competitive online gaming. We would be looking at going through the Iowa High Schools Esports Association. There are two seasons that we would be looking at; one is the spring and one is the fall. We surveyed the High School students and we surveyed the incoming Freshman, eighth graders, and had thirty-three responses that showed interest in being a part of an Esports team if it was being offered.” The School Board was in favor of bringing the Esports program to the district. They will need to officially approve the activity at a later date. With the idea that the program will begin for the 2024-2025 season.
