The No. 7 ranked Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls golf team opened the postseason Friday with a runner-up finish to advance through the first round of the Class 2A Regional tournament in Kalona. The Golden Hawks shot a team score of 379, to finish second. Tipton took the top spot and regional championship with a 377. Mid-Prairie was led on the day by Gabi Robertson’s 92 to finish fourth overall. Other scores for the Hawks included Morgyn Bender 93, Olivia Swartzentruber 96, Madi Davidson 98, Elliot Debler 100 and Addison English 102. After the meet, Mid-Prairie’s top two scorers, Robertson and Bender joined KCII Sports to talk about their days.

Robertson said, “Front nine, hole three, my first drive of the day went right down the middle, beautiful. I was super surprised because when I was practicing warming up, they were not going straight at all. For me on the back nine my putting was really well, I one or two putted everything.”

Bender continued, “I was not doing very well to start, but then I made a put and got going after that. I feel like I did pretty well overall on the back nine. I didn’t have any three putts. Most of my drives were going pretty well.”

Mid-Prairie now has an overall record of 40-5 and will play for a bid to their third straight State Tournament Wednesday at the 2A Regional Final in West Liberty.
